Claude Duet Preview Opens to Pro and Max, Not Enterprise

Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, and the first thing your enterprise customer will ask is "can we turn it on?" Not yet. Duet is available by waitlist to Pro and Max subscribers, starting in the US, and Team and Enterprise customers are reported as "not included yet", with no timeline. It is listed in Anthropic's release notes as a research preview for Pro and Max plans.

What Claude Duet is

Duet is a separate app, on iOS, Android and claude.ai, where Claude works as a proactive agent. Anthropic's announcement says it sends a short brief each morning across your connected apps, watches them during the day, and messages you only when something needs attention. It is built around Claude Opus 5.5.

It runs on its own virtual machine with its own browser, so your laptop and phone can be off. It carries over memory, skills and connected apps from your Claude account, and can use more than 6,000 connectors and plugins from the Claude Marketplace. Named examples include Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, DocuSign and HubSpot.

What the Claude Duet research preview costs

There is no separate price. Duet is included in Pro and Max and shares the usage limits of the rest of Claude. Background checks count against those limits, and bigger jobs like financial models or decks take more model turns.

Anthropic says Duet checks connected accounts every few hours, not continuously, to conserve usage. Trending Topics expects Pro users to hit their limits faster. If you test it, watch your usage meter for a week before you form an opinion.

What it does on its own, and what it won't

Duet can read, draft and prepare work without asking. Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows you the action and waits for approval. Trading securities and moving money between accounts are blocked even with approval.

Anthropic also lists its own limits: it may misread a thread or misjudge urgency, and it cannot yet show you its browser. With a check interval measured in hours, it is a chaser and drafter. It is not a pager.

Where Claude Duet fits for delivery teams

The named integrations are business apps, not engineering tools. That points to the coordination chores around a project: a morning brief of mail and calendar, scheduling meetings, drafting documents, tracking unpaid invoices, getting contracts ready to send.

It is a poor fit for anything on a clock shorter than a few hours, or where a wrong guess is expensive. The announcement describes an app, and I found no API for it, so don't plan a delivery milestone around building on it.

What to tell customers on Team or Enterprise plans

Keep the answer short and don't promise a date:

Duet is a research preview for individual Pro and Max subscribers. Team and Enterprise plans aren't included yet, and Anthropic hasn't given a timeline. We'll evaluate it when it reaches your plan.

Then mention the catch, which is my reading and not something the announcement addresses. Anyone in the US with a personal Pro or Max subscription can join the waitlist and connect a work Gmail or Slack to an agent running on Anthropic's cloud. A personal plan sits outside your customer's admin settings, so the gap between "not on our plan" and "not in our company" may be wider than they think.

Monday morning checklist

  1. Ask the customer which Duet-style workflows they actually want (briefs, chasing, drafting) and write them down. That is your evaluation list for when it reaches their plan.
  2. Check whether their policy covers personal AI subscriptions connected to work mail and chat. Update it before staff start joining the waitlist.
  3. If you have a US Pro or Max account, join the waitlist and test on a throwaway mailbox, not a client's.
  4. Track usage during that test, since the preview has no separate allowance.

A proactive agent with access to mail, payments and signatures is only as safe as the accounts it is connected to, so settle who may connect what before the rollout date arrives, not after.
